Redis ‘Beyond Cache’ Hackathon 2020

Inspired by apps submitted during the Redis Day hackathon in Bangalore, we’ve decided to run our first-ever online developer hackathon — the Redis ‘Beyond Cache’ Hackathon. Once again, the point of this hackathon will be to develop apps that take advantage of built-in Redis data structures that enable Event-driven Architecture, and/or use one of the many Modules that extends Redis functionality.

This hackathon is also timed to coincide with RedisConf, the yearly get-together of Redis community members.  Of course, this year RedisConf has gone online and is called RedisConf Takeaway, with the theme ‘Rediscover’.

This Redis ‘Beyond Cache’ Hackathon is free to participate in, and open to all developers with the desire to explore and create new, innovative applications using Redis.

The following are encouraged to participate:

As participants in this hackathon, you and your team will:

Sign-up for the Hackathon for free

$15,000 in PRIZES

Grand Prize – 5,000 US
People’s Choice – 5,000 US
2nd Place – 3,000 US
3rd Place – 1,500 US
4th Place – 500 US

Plus, each team will receive Redis swag (1 Redis t-shirt, sticker per team member) and project will showcased in the Hackathon website and in a Redis blog post.

Applications qualified to participate in this hackathon must demonstrate how Redis can be used ‘Beyond Cache’ and should fit into at least one of the following categories:

  1. Event-driven architectures –Your application uses Redis Streams, Pub/Sub, and/or Queues to demonstrate a smart use of real-time information provided by users, services or IoT networks. Examples might include: 1) using Streams to create reliable workflows that produce and consume data at different rates; 2) using Pub/Sub to create real-time user notifications that fire-and-forget updates to many user’s browsers and/or mobile apps; or 3) using Queues to help internal systems scale by creating background jobs and processing them later
  2. Redis Modules-focussed – An application using RediSearchRedisGraphRedisJSONRedisTimeSeriesRedisBloom (and also the new RedisAI & RedisGears modules) in a compelling way

The Judges will score eligible submissions using the following equally weighted criteria:

The Maker(s) that are eligible for a Prize, and whose Submissions earn the highest overall scores based on the applicable Judging Criteria, will become potential winners of that Prize.
